Craniosacral Therapy
Medical massage modalities are designed to achieve specific goals of pain relief and
healing. I would like to tell you about a very special type of treatment that I offer
here at Integrative Medical Massage Plano: craniosacral therapy,
sometimes called cranial-sacral therapy.

The target of craniosacral therapy is not the muscles and connective tissue, as is the case with most bodywork. Rather, craniosacral therapy was developed to improve the functioning of the central nervous system (CNS).

Because the central nervous system governs virtually every aspect of the
physiology, a healthy CNS means a healthier you overall.
The brain produces cerebrospinal fluid, which nourishes your brain and spinal cord
and removes waste products as it circulates. A spinal tap or lumbar puncture
(sampling of the fluid) often indicates the presence of abnormal cells, pathogens,
and other substances. The fluid also cushions these organs from injury during jolts
and falls.

The aim of craniosacral therapy is to allow cerebrospinal fluid to flow more freely by
loosening the tissues such as the dura mater that surround the fluid. Restrictions
can arise from traumatic events but also develop over time as a result of poor
posture, stress, and minor injuries. When the restrictions are removed, patients experience pain relief, lowered tension, and improvements in a variety of other symptoms.

Craniosacral therapy is indicated for the following:
*    Aches and pains in the head (including migraines), neck, and back
*    Sciatica
*    Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome
*    Sinus troubles
*    Chronic fatigue
*    Insomnia
*    Depression
*    Stress
*    Vertigo
*    Fibromyalgia
*    ADD & ADHD
*    Sciatica
The list goes on;  our medical massage clients have reported improvements in numerous other conditions after receiving craniosacral therapy.

Craniosacral therapy in Plano is pretty much the same experience as it is
anywhere else, since the practitioner works the same general areas regardless of
the client’s complaints. During a session, I apply light touches to the skull as well as
the diaphragm, vertebrae and pelvic bones, sometimes holding an area gently
before moving on. It is very relaxing.

These techniques balance the cerebrospinal fluid along the brain
and spinal cord and improve the functioning of the nervous system. The patient
remains fully clothed, and the treatment is extremely gentle, making it suitable for
virtually everyone from children to the elderly to those recovering from injuries or
surgery.

If your search for craniosacral therapy in Plano has led you here, I encourage you
to give me a call and make an appointment. I perform CST regularly here in my
Plano medical massage facility and get great satisfaction out of seeing how it
benefits my clients.
